The holiday season is a perfect time for charitable giving. In our personal lives, we may choose to give to our favorite charity, or our personal house of worship, for example. We may drop some change or a few dollars in a Salvation Army bucket outside of our favorite stores, or buy presents for a child in need through organizations like Operation Christmas Child or from an Angel Tree. Many of us take part in these efforts throughout the year, but their impact can especially be felt during the holidays.
It is no different here at Eastwood Homes, where our Built With Care initiative extends into our communities, as well. As we near the calendar end of this holiday season, we would love to share with you the latest update on our philanthropic partnership with Levine Children’s Hospital. If you’ve followed our company for any length of time, you know how near and dear Levine is to our hearts here at Eastwood Homes.
Levine Children’s Hospital brings life-saving care for children that cannot be found elsewhere in our region, and we have supported them since 2008. A portion of every home sold in our Charlotte market is donated to the hospital. When an employee of the Carolinas HealthCare System purchases an Eastwood Home, an additional $500 donation is made in their honor as well.
The second major component of the partnership is the Eastwood Homes Hospitality Cart, which was introduced to Levine in the fall of 2008. The cart circulates the 8 floors and family waiting areas of Levine Children’s Hospital and provides healthy snacks, reading materials, gifts, books, and toiletries at no charge to the children or families of the children that are staying in the hospital.
For the past four years, we’ve also held an annual Charity Golf Outing benefiting the hospital. This past year, we raised $62,000 for Levine Children’s Hospital! To date, we have raised more than $200,000 for the hospital through our golf outings! We had the opportunity this week to present the big check to Levine Children’s Hospital for 2016!
If you’ve ever been to Levine Children’s Hospital, you know that one way they make the hospital a less imposing, frightful place for children is through the inclusion of the Seacrest Studios in the lobby of the hospital. While we were at the hospital presenting the big check, the deejays at Seacrest Studios had us take part in some games on-air for all the children in the hospital to see. The studio invites children down to the studio to witness interviews with celebrities, sing-alongs, and storytelling first-hand. For those children unable to visit the studio, the studio broadcasts all the action on every patient's TV throughout the hospital. When we visited, they first tested our knowledge of home design and made us identify architectural styles by showing us pictures of homes, flash-card style! We think we did okay, considering the stress of being on-air! We answered 10 of 15 correctly! In case you are curious, most of the homes we build at Eastwood are Craftsman-style homes.
Next, we really embodied the holiday season and played what you might call a reindeer game! The deejay at Seacrest Studios played some Christmas music, and made us finish the lyrics by singing on-air! We are in the home construction industry, not the music industry, and you could tell by our tone! But we still had a great time, and we hope we made some of the children happier that afternoon.
Our philanthropic partnership with Levine is one of our pride of Eastwood Homes, and many of our team members actually list this as one of the reasons they love working here. We certainly hope to continue this partnership for many years to come.
We’d love to hear what you are doing this holiday season to give back to those who need a little extra spirit right now. Let us know in the comments below! And, we wish you and yours the happiest of holidays!

To all of our friends (near and far), we wanted to take a moment and share this letter from our owner, Clark Stewart, to our team! We hope this encouraging note will give you a true glimpse into the culture of our company. We’re all so thankful to be working for a family-owned business that celebrates our achievements, both company-wide and individually. During this time of Thanksgiving, we are so grateful to be a part of our Eastwood family!
