Hot Interior Design Trends for 2017!

December 30, 2016

Jewel toned velvet design trend

Can we pause a moment and reflect on the fact that it’s almost 2017? If you’re like most of us here at Eastwood Homes, you’re shocked that it arrived so quickly! 2016 was full of fun memories, great celebrations, highs, lows, and much more! We’re excited to have another year under our belt and now it’s time to jump in the driver’s seat and prepare to take in all that 2017 is bringing our way!

Again, if you’re like us, you’re already thinking about the future and how to make 2017 the BEST YEAR YET! Right now, you may even be thinking about changing the décor in your home to keep up with the popular trends.  As a tradition, we’ve looked into Zillow Digs to find out what is hot and trending in the interior design world for the New Year!

Velvet

This trend may not be a surprise as it’s popping up everywhere in the fashion world. (Some of our co-workers wore velvet to our annual holiday party!) Experts believe velvet will be HUGE in interior design for 2017! This can range from curtains, throw pillows, couches, and more! We recommend starting small to see how the trend evolves! Maybe a pop of velvet brought in through throw pillows or blankets to begin? Either way, velvet will add a little spice to your design life! Because of this new trend, we’re hoping the New Year will be “velvety” and smooth!

Jewel Colors

Stunning colors like emerald, ruby, and sapphire are going to make a big splash in 2017. These rich colors can be expected to show up in furniture and artwork. We think bold colors can make a big statement! It’s also a nice compliment to the grey trend that has been taking the world by storm! Is anyone up for mixing velvet fabric in a jewel color?

Marble Surfaces

This is an interesting trend for homebuilders! Experts believe marble surfaces, especially in shades of light gray and white, will be a major design trend in the new year. You can expect to see marble countertops, tabletops, flooring, and everyday items like vases, platters, and phone cases! Be cautious if you’re going to consider incorporating marble into your new home! Although beautiful, marble is more porous than its granite or quartz counterparts. Chemical cleaners are also not a friend of this beautiful stone. If using marble, make sure you also use a very high-grade sealant for protection.

Built-in Bars

This is the trend we are most excited about! The 2016 bar cart trend is over, and experts believe homeowners will look to have a built-in bar in their homes, which is perfect for entertaining guests! Our Charleston floor plan includes a butler’s pantry that many homeowners use as a bar area. We’ve also seen a few Eastwood Homes outfitted with full bars in the garage or semi-built-in bars in the 3rd-floor bonus room! Our homeowners are very creative when it comes to incorporating a bar into their homes.

Some things are better left in the past… Here are the trends you should consider leaving behind in 2016:

Overly Industrial Furniture

While exposed brick will still be popular, it’s time to leave the uncomfortable industrial furniture behind. Design trends in 2017 will move towards a special combination of Victorian-inspired elegance (plush fabrics, rich leather, etc.) and “machine-like” accents. We’re still researching the exact meaning of “machine-like” accents. Do any of our interior design friends out there care to help explain the meaning?

Cool Grays

Yes, we said it- cool grays will be a thing of the past. Homeowners are predicted to shift towards using brighter, welcoming colors in the new year. Don’t worry, we still love the color gray! If you love this neutral color as we do, try bringing warm-colored rugs, lamps, or vases into your home to keep up with the hottest design trends.

Quote Art

This trend grew rapidly and is slowly going out. Experts believe homeowners will move towards nature-inspired artwork. Again, this is a hard trend for us to leave behind. If you love and feel inspired by quote art, then do you and leave it up! At the end of the day, it’s your home!

Considering what the experts say, there are some trends we’re excited to see in 2017 and some we’re sad to see go. What do you think? Do you feel inspired to change something in your home? Or will you stick to what you already love?
