Summer is here! The weather is hot and the days are long! If you live in the Southeast as we do, this means it’s the time of year to hit the beach! If you live in a state where Eastwood Homes is building, then you know what I’m talking about! Here are a few of my favorite beaches. Our beautiful states are home to so many gorgeous beaches that I certainly can’t name them all. Get out there and explore! Let us know where your favorite sand-and-sun getaway is located!
Just down the road from Historic Charleston is Folly Beach, often referred to as “the edge of America.” Folly Beach is home to a variety of eclectic surf shops, restaurants, and gift shops, and is one of the more popular surf spots along the East Coast. Despite its shopping and dining options, I find that Folly Beach still maintains a comfortable local flair, unlike some beaches that tend to lean a bit toward a cookie-cutter touristy destination. There are only two hotels, and they are rather boutique, so the best way to vacation at Folly is to rent a beach house. Nothing is better than piling a ton of friends and family into one great big house right on the Atlantic Ocean for a party!
If you are looking for upscale elegance in your beach vacation, check out Kiawah Island. A gated beach and golf resort, Kiawah is home to spacious villas, beaches, and large and acclaimed golf courses. Several years ago, I visited Kiawah for a beach wedding, and I couldn’t have been more blissed out by the amazingly quiet beaches. The beach isn’t as wide as some of the larger and well-traveled beaches, but there is plenty of space to go around on this private island.
Pack up the whole family for a trip to Myrtle Beach. There is truly something for everyone in the Myrtle Beach area, making it the most popular tourist destination of the beaches on my list. In addition to a plethora of hotel and vacation rental options, Myrtle Beach is known for its kitschy seafood buffets, mini-golf, theaters, shows, Ripley’s Aquarium, theme parks, and a grand boardwalk. With miles of beaches known as “The Grand Strand,” you can enjoy beach fun during the day, and still, have plenty to keep you busy when the sun goes down.
The Outer Banks is a 200-mile string of narrow barrier islands off the coast of North Carolina, which extend to cover the majority of the NC coastline, separating the Currituck Sound, Albemarle Sound, and Pamlico Sound from the Atlantic Ocean. The Outer Banks is a major tourist destination and is known for its temperate climate and wide expanse of open beachfront. The Cape Hatteras National Seashore has four campgrounds where visitors may camp, enjoy extraordinary fishing, or explore historical landmarks such as the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse and Bodie Island Lighthouse. Once dubbed the “Graveyard of the Atlantic,” Cape Hatteras boasts an abundance of past shipwrecks known as wonderful scuba diving sites with hidden treasures to explore. At The Outer Banks, visitors can enjoy a leisurely day on the beach or immerse themselves in the exciting activities surrounding the historical landmarks!
Surf’s Up! Wrightsville Beach is a popular spot for all Carolinian beachgoers due to its easy access to I-40 and close proximity to popular Wilmington, NC. At Wrightsville Beach, activities are endless! Last year, I stumbled upon an amateur surf competition at Wrightsville Beach while out for a morning beach stroll. Needless to say, I was entertained for hours! In addition to great surfing, Wrightsville Beach provides a convenient, family-friendly atmosphere with shopping and dining options galore! Take up paddle boarding or kayaking, stroll around the scenic 2.5 miles island loop, or simply watch the sunrise over the beach horizon. In my opinion, you’re sure to be entertained at Wrightsville Beach!
Bald Head Island is a true beach escape located on the East side of the Cape Fear River in Brunswick County, NC. Nestled just off the coast of the small town of Southport, Bald Head Island is only accessible by ferry giving visitors the true feel for island living. There are little to no cars on the island leaving room for peace, quiet, and…electric golf cart. A golf cart is the predominant form of travel around Bald Head! Old Baldy, the oldest lighthouse in the state of North Carolina is a popular Bald Head Island destination for natives and tourists alike. As one of the landmarks on the National Register of Historic Places, the lighthouse continues to attract visitors from around the United States. If looking for history and relaxation then look no further- Bald Head Island it is! The island is the place to kick off your shoes, cool off in the hammock, and enjoy the beauty and serenity that Mother Nature offers.
Virginia Beach is a resort city with miles of beaches and hundreds of hotels, motels, and restaurants along its oceanfront. Every year the city hosts the East Coast Surfing Championships as well as the North American Sand Soccer Championship, a beach soccer tournament. It is also home to several state parks, several long-protected beach areas, three military bases, a number of large corporations, two universities, and numerous historic sites. Like Myrtle Beach, Virginia Beach really does provide endless opportunities for family fun time, or grown-up relaxing beach time!
The Sales and Marketing Council of the Home Builders Association of Charlotte hosted the 29th annual MAME Awards on Thursday, June 19th at the Ritz-Carlton in Uptown Charlotte. Eastwood Homes was recognized with several prestigious awards during the event.

In their annual rankings report released on Friday, Builder Magazine recognized Eastwood Homes as the 45th largest builder nationwide with a total of 862 closings in 2013. A well-recognized source for construction and real estate information nationwide, Builder Magazine has published a list of builders ranked by their total closings on an annual basis since 2003.
